Road Trip Day 8

We drove down I-15, past Las Vegas, then on to Hoover Dam:
They are building a dam bypass bridge that will be done in 2010:

View in the other direction is the bottom of Lake Meade:

We met up with Route 66 a couple of times. We had lunch at Mr. D'z Route 66 Diner in Kingman Arizona:
We are spending the night in Williams Arizona, just outside of Grand Canyon National Park. Williams is also on the old Route 66.

A bypass bridge. Is the dam getting too old for regular traffic these days, or is there just too much of it, I wonder...

The North Rim opens Friday. Not sure if that is available in your timetable or is something you want to do.

There are people all over the dam, trying to park and walking around. While I was trying to turn in to a dam parking area, an incensed local laid on the horn to express his displeasure. So, I guess that the dam bypass bridge would sort out the people with different dam objectives.

It also looks like traffic over the dam bypass bridge would have a better view of the dam itself.

As it is, they make RV's and trucks go down to Needles so that they don't have to inspect them for dam bombs.
